About library of Diwan Nasir Ali
Diwan Saheb was the title given to him by the British Government. No body can ignore the services of this great man of this village.
In the year 1930, Government of India had published a comprehensive catalogue of the books and manuscripts of different libraries; and those listed from page 641-667 were obtained from the then famous waqf library of Deewan Nasir Ali. In...1930s this library was present in a dilapidated condition in Kujhwa, Saran. Deewan Nasir Ali was a contemporary of Mughal Emperor Shah Alam Sani. He had properties running into several lacs and among them was and annual waqf of Rupees Eighteen Thousand. The dearest thing that ha had willed was his library, which had certain manuscripts obtained from the imperial libraries. This "Wasiyatnama" was written in Persian. He, in his will, had several times reminded his descendents to preserve, protect and develop this library. Certain books of this library were displayed in the public exhibition of historical books, held in Patna. (Reference : English Translation of an Urdu article written by professor Hasan Askari for the Urdu Magazine, Meyar, in the year 1936. In this article, Professor Askari has given a list of six historical manuscripts obtained from this library and important among them are Deewan-i-Humayun, Dilkusha, Masir-ul-Iqbal and Mirat-ul-Asrar.)
Prof. Askari in his article "A Rare and Unique Eight Century Arabic Manuscript on Embassies and Amanuenses of the Prophet of Islam-Published in Indo-Iranica 39, 1-4 (1986) 1-20, speaks of the collections of Shifa-al-Mulk Hakim Sayyid Mazhar Husain, Waqf Diwan Nasir Ali Library in village Kujhwa and the library of Raja Pyare Lal Ulfati of Patna who had significant number of manuscripts, though left in the hands of descendants unfamiliar with Urdu, much less in Arabic and Persian.
At present there is no library of Diwan Nasir Ali in village Kujhwa. Some of the books of Diwan Nasir Ali’s library were sent to Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library, Patna by his relatives.
